Here are nine inexpensive, fun, and creative craft ideas you can do with your completed coloring page!
1. Make a 3D Volcano
Using dark-colored tissue paper, place an empty paper towel holder in the center, and crunch the paper up around it to look like the base of a volcano. Once the volcano is colored and cut out, a few dabs of Krazy glue can be used to affix it to the front of the paper towel cardboard, creating an instant 3D appearance. The coloring page should be embellished ahead of time with cotton balls for smoke, red puffy paint for lava, and shredded red tissue paper at the top for fire!
2. Turn an Ordinary Paper Plate Into a Volcano
For this easy craft, all that’s needed is a large paper plate, some glue, and the volcano coloring page. Screw the paper plate into a spiral and tape it firmly together. With the finished coloring page, laminate around the spiral, and you have an instant desktop volcano. Make some streaks at the top with red or orange puffy paint to make it look as if the lava is overflowing.
3. Hilarious Craft on a Stick
All children will enjoy this comical craft. After finishing the volcano coloring page, the kids should draw and cut out a depiction of themselves. The child’s cutout should be glued onto a long craft stick and then placed behind the “volcano.” The craft stick can then be used to make it look as if the children themselves are popping out of the top of the volcano.
4. Make a Volcano Flashlight
If your child has a flashlight, they can laminate it with a finished volcano coloring page to make it a one-of-a-kind tool. Make sure the top of the volcano is laminated around the light so that the glow from the flashlight bulb looks like it’s coming from “lava.” Make sure to seal it with contact paper or glassine so that it lasts a long time.
5. Design a Crazy Volcano Centerpiece
Your children may come to the table quicker if it’s adorned with a fun and interesting volcano centerpiece. They can start with a plain old vase or jar of any kind and carefully attach the coloring page with the top of the volcano at the top of the vase. Alternatively, the base could be decorated with several volcanoes that were colored and cut out of the pages like decals. Artificial red flowers or leaves are the perfect finishing touch.
6. Make Dramatic Wall Art
If your children enjoy creating art for a bedroom wall or closet door, a volcano coloring page is ideal. Lots of decorations are the key to making this artwork really pop. Cotton balls enhanced with silver glitter are perfect for smoke, and red glitter for lava is a must. Brown felt can be used for the bottom portion of the volcano, and the end result is dramatic wall art that can be hung anywhere.
7. Design a Comical Volcano Hat
Your children will be pleased to discover that it’s easy to make a funny hat from a volcano coloring page. The coloring page should be left in its entirety and folded into the classic party hat shape. Next, use an abundance of red streamers, attaching them to the top to make it look as if lava is dripping down over the child’s head. These hilarious hats can be attached with some elastic string, just like traditional party hats.
8. Volcano Classroom Activity
For fun and educational classroom activity, have each child color two volcanoes, one that is erupting and one that’s dormant. Have them cut out each volcano and glue one to either side of a plain white piece of poster board. In the blank spaces around the volcano, have the students write different facts about what makes volcanoes erupt. Then, have them do the same on the “dormant” side, adding information about why volcanoes go dormant.
9. Put the Volcano in an Environment
Virtually all children will have fun creating an environment for their volcano. Once it’s colored, it should be carefully cut from the page and laminated with contact paper or glassine. On a separate piece of poster board, the larger, the better, students can color scenery to serve as a background. This can be educational as well since they will have to do a bit of research about the landscape surrounding most volcanoes. Once the volcano’s “environment” is created, the volcano can be glued to the scenery for a unique poster.
