10. Scrapbooking Notions
For anywhere you want to add a touch of color and whimsy to your scrapbooking – like a beautiful day you want to remember forever – my rainbows are perfection. Give them a good color-in using high-quality markers or colored pencils, cut them out, and glue them in place on the page. They’re great space fillers or would look adorable in the corner of the page. They could also be used for a St. Patrick’s Day theme, and you could add a pot of gold at one end.
9. Puffy Clouds Rainbows
This cute craft is ideal for preschoolers or kindergarteners but could also be enjoyed by kids of all ages (and those young at heart). You’ll have the kids color in the rainbow, and then they’ll take cotton balls and glue them in a place where the clouds are. They can use whole cotton balls or pick them apart to achieve their desired shapes.
8. Student Of The Month Posters
The Rainbow Shooting Star coloring page can be used in a classroom setting to announce the student of the month (or week). You can color in the rainbow and the star, then write in Sharpie the featured student’s name on the star.
7. Hanging Rain Rainbows
Pick a rainbow illustration like Rainbow With Storm Clouds And Lightening or Beautiful Rainbow Coloring Sheet For Kids. Have your kids color in just the rainbow and then cut it out, including the clouds. Next, you will cut up strips of blue yarn – about 10 per side, six to eight inches long. Your kids are going to glue an equal number of yarn strips to each cloud so that it looks like rain is falling.
6. Suncatchers
My rainbows would make gorgeous suncatchers, perfect for a window with a lot of light. You’ll need transparency paper; you’ll print off the rainbow illustration onto it. Then you’ll take either bits of tissue paper or tissue paper cut into arched strips and place them within the lines. You can tidy up the tissue paper by cutting it down anywhere you need to. Poke a hole in the top and thread some string to tie it into a bow. Then you can hang your rainbows on a sunny window using suction cups and hooks.
5. Greeting Cards
Brighten someone’s day with a handmade rainbow card that tells them you’re thinking of them. Or turn my rainbow illustrations into a birthday card or anniversary card. You can resize the illustration by copying/pasting it into a word processor and adjusting the height and width to take up either half a page or a quarter of the page. Then you’ll print it off and fold it accordingly. Color in (or have your kids color in) the illustration and write a sweet message inside!
4. Gift Bag Decorations
My rainbow pictures would make adorable decorations for a plain gift bag that needs a little something extra. Depending on how big your gift bag is, you’ll likely want to resize the image, print it off and color it in just the rainbow, then cut it out with the clouds attached. Now, you can paste it down onto the gift bag, but I also like taking a piece of construction paper and cutting off two or three little strips. Fold them up a few times like an accordion and glue one side to the gift bag. Then glue the rainbow to the strips to lift off the bag, like it’s 3D.
3. Rainbow Fans
Print off as many rainbow illustrations as you need and have the kids color in just the rainbow for a cute craft that would make a super fun summer birthday party activity. Next, they will cut it out and then trace the shape onto cardstock. Next, they’ll cut out the outline and glue the two pieces together. Finally, they’re going to add extra-large crafting sticks to the back, glued in place, to serve as the handle. They can fan themselves to their heart’s content!
2. Fruit Loops Rainbows
Another terrific craft for preschoolers to grade-schoolers, you’ll need lots of Fruit Loops for this one. Instead of coloring in the rainbow in a traditional sense, the kids will organize the Fruit Loops by color and glue them down onto the page accordingly. As an added bonus, you can also get mini marshmallows for them to fill in the clouds with (and they make a nice sugary snack, too!).
1. Keychains
You’re going to print off the rainbow your kids want onto the shrink sheets and have them color it in using markers. They’ll cut out the rainbows and then punch holes where they want the keychain hardware to go. Next, you’ll bake off the cut-outs according to your shrink sheet’s directions and then wait for them to cool completely. Once they’re ready, you can attach the keychain hardware. This is such a perfect craft for a rainy afternoon!
