10. Kids’ Faces Elves
For this cute craft, you will need extra photos of your children (that you don’t mind cutting up). You’re going to have the kids color in the Elf figures of their choice and then cut them out. Then they’re going to cut out their faces from the photos and paste them onto the Elf’s face. You’re pretty much done there, but you can make the naughty Elves do all kinds of things in your kid’s names!
9. Bookmarks
To make these Elf on the Shelf bookmarks, you’ll need to use an illustration where the Elf’s arms are clearly visible and, if possible, on each side of his torso. You’ll have your kids color in the Elf and then cut him out carefully, following along the outline. Then you’re going to put the cut-out against a piece of cardstock, trace around it, and cut out that outline. Next, you’ll paste the two pieces together (this gives reinforcement to the flimsier computer paper). Now you have an Elf on the Shelf bookmark where the Elf’s arms can go over the page you want to keep!
8. Puffy Collar Elves
To make this cute preschooler craft, you’ll just need glue and cotton balls. You’re going to instruct your child to color in the Elf’s body and background but then glue on cotton balls for the collar. If your child wants to be more precise about it, they cut the cotton balls to make the zig-zag of the collar – but it’s not necessary!
7. Homemade Elf On The Shelf
You can use my Elf on the Shelf coloring pages as cut-outs if you don’t want to spend the money on buying an actual doll. In fact, some might find that preferable since the doll can get wet, sticky, or otherwise dirty when it gets up to its antics. By using my Elf on the Shelf illustrations, you can get one or two uses out of each and then discard if any get especially messy.
6. Welcome Letters
You could also use my Elf on the Shelf illustrations as welcome letters from the Elf. Pick a coloring page where there is ample room on the sheet for a message from the Elf, something along the lines of: “Hello! I’m your Elf on the Shelf, and I’m here to play! Each day I will surprise you with a new location, and you will have to come and find me. And each night, I will travel to the North Pole to tell Santa about all the good things you have done.”
5. Christmas Tree Ornaments
You can make cute Elf on the Shelf ornaments using shrink sheets and ribbon. Simply print out the Elves your family wants to turn into ornaments onto the shrink sheets, then have the kids color in with markers and cut out. Punch a hole near the top, then bake off per the shrink sheet’s instructions. Once they’re cool, loop the ribbon through and tie it off into a bow. Now you have cute new Elf ornaments that will look adorable on your Christmas tree!
4. Popsicle Stick Elves
This fun take on Elf on a Shelf requires only popsicle sticks and something to color with. Have your kids color in the Elf’s head and collar, arms and legs, and then use a red marker to color in the popsicle stick red. Cut out the pieces and glue them to the popsicle stick.
3. Party Decorations
Whether you’re hosting a Christmas party or your kid just wants an Elf on the Shelf-themed birthday party, get them in on the decorating action. Starting a few weeks before the party, help them color in multiple Elves to use as table or wall décor, place settings, food markers, or even strung up as bunting.
2. Gift Bag Decorations
Nothing will be as cute as the bag you give someone for Secret Santa that’s decorated with an Elf cut-out. Just color in the Elf of your choice – or multiple Elves! – and paste to a plain gift bag (red or green would be perfect!).
1. Toilet Paper Roll Elves
Have your kids pick the Elves they want to use, color them in and cut them out. Then, you’re going to bend the Elves at the waist so that they’re sitting and glue a toilet paper roll to their back so that they sit up on their own. You might have to cut down the toilet paper roll to fit the figure, depending on how large it is.
