10. Gallery Walls
My fall and autumn illustrations are so pretty that they would make perfect wall art, a display you put up in September and take down in November. You can simply print out any number of my pictures and color them in using nice artists’ markers or colored pencils. Then, buy some inexpensive (or expensive! Totally up to you!) frames and put the pictures inside. Hang on your wall in an artful arrangement – say, two by two or three up top and two below. You could also increase the interest by resizing a few of the pictures and getting frames in different dimensions and looks.
9. Book Covers
There are quintessential fall books – the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, for one, or Friday Night Lights (upon which the movie and TV show were based). You can jazz up the outside of these books by turning my autumn pictures into book covers. You’ll copy and paste the entire illustrations into a word processor document that has been oriented to landscape. Center it on the right-hand side, leaving about a half-inch margin. Print it off and color it in, then line up the book against the page, which you will turn face-down. Mark where the book’s edges reach, set the book aside, and then fold inward, both top and bottom, the full length of the page. You’ve created flaps that can be slid over the book’s existing cover.
8. Finger Puppets
Some of the figures in my fall and autumn pictures would make adorable finger puppets that your kids will love to play with again and again. For example, Simple Fox Wearing Scarf In Fall or Snoopy With Thanksgiving Turkey would both make for super cute puppets. You’ll want to shrink the images to about four or five inches tall first and then print them out onto cardstock or similar durable paper. Have your kids color them in and cut them out. Then, you might need to lend a hand; you’ll start by making two small holes near the bottom of the figures with scissors. Then you’ll expand the holes to create circles or ovals that your kids’ fingers will fit through.
7. Table Centerpieces
At Thanksgiving, why not DIY the table’s centerpiece using my fall/autumn illustrations? You can create stand-up figures out of my Snoopy characters or cornucopia, for example. Print them out onto cardstock, make a slit up the bottom, and then slide another piece of cardstock into the slit at a 90-degree angle. Set around fresh flowers or a wreath made from autumn leaves.
6. Autumn Party Decorations
If you’re holding an autumn open house or another party, you don’t have to spend buckets of money on decorations. You can use my autumn/fall pictures as inexpensive decorations for around your house. Whole illustrations can be colored in and hung up on the walls, or you could print five to six pumpkins, string them together, and create bunting for over a doorway. Many of the pictures can also be used as part of place settings or table centerpieces.
5. Greeting Card Covers
Because my fall/autumn pictures are so adorable, they would make super cute DIY greeting card covers for friends and family. Just color in the picture you want to use, cut it out and paste it to the front of a piece of cardstock that has been folded in half. You can embellish the cover further with glitter, stickers, etc.
4. Kids’ Paintings
Next time your kids are “bored!” set them up at your kitchen table with my fall/autumn illustrations and some watercolors and paintbrushes. You can find the art supplies for cheap at the dollar store; be sure to put a vinyl tablecloth over your table and put the kids in clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
3. Wrapping Paper
Some of the patterns from my fall/autumn pictures would make gorgeous DIY wrapping paper for the next little fall treat you gift someone. The mandalas, Full Page Autumn Leaves and Mushrooms page, or the Coloring Sheet Of Fall Elements would all make spectacular wrapping paper. Print them out and color them in, then lay the page face-down and set the gift on top to wrap it. Once it’s all inside and the page is taped down around it, you can add bows, ribbons, lace – anything to make it extra special.
2. Autumn-Themed Dry Erase Board
To make an autumn-themed dry-erase board, you only need a picture frame and dry-erase markers! You can print off whichever picture you like, color it in and pop it inside the frame. Then, you can write directly onto the glass with the dry-erase markers – and the erasers also work perfectly well with it. The best part is you can swap out the picture when the season changes!
1. Fall Calendars
Keep track of everything going on in fall by making your very own calendar. You’ll pick a picture to use and copy and paste it into a word processor document that has been oriented to landscape (don’t worry about stretching it to make it fit). Then, using the table feature on a different page, you’ll make the calendar grid; if you want to be extra fancy, you can add in the month name, the days, and the numbers. Print off both and color in the picture. You will punch three holes at the bottom of the picture page and the top of the grid page. Tie off pieces of string, twine, or even ribbon through both sets of holes and hang your calendar somewhere prominent!
